Why we wait for rock bottom instead of taking responsibility sooner?
You can change your life in a flick of a moment. And obviously, you may disagree, but it is. I want to tell you a little story to emphasize why it is like that. And of course, there are many events and many processes that happen in the back end before we even make the decision to change our lives. But it all changes in one moment.
So a few years ago, my sister used to date a guy. And one day we were traveling together. We had like a three-hour drive, only him and I. And, you know, we were talking. And at some point he told me this story.
He shared with me that he was 100 kilograms in weight. In the past. But it didn't always been like that. When he was young, he was chubby, you know, the chubby kid. And then COVID happened and all the stuff and all the personal stuff in his family, etc. And he gained more and more weight and more and more and more weight.
And, you know, at first he was like 80, 85. And then he grew to be 90. And, you know, when he was 90, he already was very concerned. He's not that tall. He's short. But he was already very concerned, but he kept on going. And then 90 became 93, 95, 97. And when he reached 97, he made a decision. "I don't want to go farther. I got to make a change." But he hadn't done anything. And then 98. And then 99.
And in one day, he went on this weight scale. And he was 101 kilograms. And in that day, where he saw 101 kilograms, he made a shift. And he reduced from that day, three, six months later - and I'm not suggesting it. I think this is too radical. This is what he did - 30 kilograms. Because he stopped eating. And he even ended up in the hospital for a few days. Again, I'm not suggesting it. And I think maybe there are better ways and more healthier ways to do that.
But I want to emphasize how strong and capable he was and how strong and capable we are. Because in the flick of a moment, we can change our lives.
And what happened over there where he saw 101 kilograms? Yeah, that was just too much for him.
So we can be in an environment where we're not satisfied, we're not happy, we kept on coming every day. In his case, it was the weight. But in some other people, the case is going to a job we hate every day. Again and again and again, every single day, through traffic, through public transportation, whatever it is, feeling this pain in ourselves.
But there is one moment when we're going to say, ""That's it. No more. I'm quitting."" And in that moment, nobody can take us. Nobody can take us back. After we made this decision, there is no going back. And this is just a decision to make. Nothing else. Just a decision. One decision to make. That's it. And your life is shifted. The change is correct.
And my question to you guys. Why did he have to wait until 101 kilograms? Why at 93, 95, 97, 98, he couldn't make this transition? Why?
Because in those moments, he still had hope that maybe he would change without making a decision. Maybe this situation would just go backwards without making any decision, without changing our actions.
At 101, he took responsibility. And he said, "No more. I make the change. I bring the change. I bring a new day. I take responsibility. I cannot consist. I cannot persist. I cannot continue like this. That's it. 101."
My question to you: he was able to take this responsibility at 92, 93. Well, in his case, he's already gone. He already made this change. And when I saw him, I never thought there was a situation where he used to look like the way he is. He looks so different then. In his case, he's already gone.
But in your case, are we going to wait for a nightmare? Are we going to wait for a no going back point? Right? Are we going to wait for a horrible, horrible event? No. We can make the change now.
And you know you want to. You know it. Take responsibility. Your choices, your life led you here. But this is not over yet. You can make a new choice. And you can make a new life.
