Exploring the difference between living by what we think we're ""supposed"" to do versus making empowered choices from our authentic selves.
I think it's a big issue nowadays because many people are facing this: ""What am I supposed to be? What am I supposed to do?""
And this "suppose" is telling. This "suppose" is really asking: "What do you think other peopleāpublic opinionāwill say about your particular case? What do you think other people will want you to be or to do? What do you think other people will say about the things you are wishing to pursue?"
This is the question behind "What am I supposed to do?" or "I'm supposed to do this. I need to do this."
What is this need? Who signed you up for the commitment of needing to do something, anything?
Nobody. Nobody. Just you.
I'm not saying there are no commitments. There are commitments. I'm not saying commitment isn't something importantāit is something important. But this supposedness and this neediness, does it come from a place of true commitment? From an empowered choice you made towards something? Or is it what you think othersāwhat you think society, other peopleāare telling you to do?
What do you think? Which one of the two?
Yeah, most of the cases it's the other one. Most of the cases it's about other people. Not about your empowered choice. Not about your empowered commitment.
What do you want to be? What do you choose to be? You have the choice.
Picture this: You're looking at an apple tree. Which apple do you want? And when you pick that apple up and hold it in your hand, maybe you don't want it anymore. You want something else. It's okay. It's your choice.
Not "which apple do you need to pick?" - that's a different apple. Which one do you want right now to take? That's a very different apple. A very different approach.
Be as connected, as honest with yourself, as real, authentically you as possible.
It's challenging. It's not hard, but it's challenging because we're not used to this. We're not used to this.
And when you realize you actually have a choice? Wow. Everything else is just fading away. And you are there with your apple that you choose.
Maybe it's not the biggest one. Maybe it's not the best one. Maybe it's not the coolest one. Whatever. But it's the precise one for you. The precise choice. The precise life.
Precisely you.
