The simplest habits can lead to the biggest savings.

Some of us spend our lives hunting for savvy hacks to pad our savings, whether through budgeting apps, investment strategies, side hustles, or entrepreneurial journeys. But sometimes the biggest savings come from the simplest habits.

A habit that costs almost nothing and barely takes two minutes a day can easily save you $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, even $80,000 in a lifetime. It can keep you out of the dentist's chair for procedures that can easily run tens of thousands of dollars.

Just floss your teeth every day.

I know it might sound funny, but think about it. All the treatments you see older people getting in the dental chair - and how much money, time, and pain they spend on it. All of this can be prevented if you just floss your teeth every day.

Yet most of us don't do it. Why? Because we think, ""Oh, come on. I don't want to do this. Leave me alone. I don't want to spend more time here.""

This simple two-minute daily act - nothing fancy required - after you brush your teeth, just floss your teeth. Simple as that. And it's guaranteed to save you money.

Two Stories That Changed My Perspective

Story #1: I noticed this when talking with my older sister. She flossed her teeth every day and told me, ""I haven't seen the dentist in my life. Never. Not once in my life."" She's almost 50 years old. I thought, ""Wow."" And still, I hadn't been flossing my teeth consistently.

Only after I saw the dentist and experienced the cost and discomfort did I start to floss my teeth. To this day, I still don't do this every day - but those $80,000+ and so much pain, for some people it's even $100,000-$120,000 easily. All this can be prevented today with a two-minute action.

Story #2: One of my business mentors always told me, ""Dan, in preventing pain, there is not a lot of money. But in making pain go away, there is a lot of money.""

A floss costs $1-2 and lasts ages - it's like 20 meters of floss. But a dentist costs way, way more.

You can see this from the consumer standpoint - obviously, we would like to floss our teeth every day for two minutes. But you can also see this from the business point of view: maybe selling floss isn't the best business model.

The lesson? Sometimes the most valuable habits are the simplest ones we tend to ignore."
